    District Formation

    In 1995, the Tiruchirappalli District was trifurcated into three districts, namely Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, and Karur. Then Perambalur District consisted of the taluks of Thuraiyur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Udaiyarpalayam. In the year 1996, Thuraiyur joined Tiruchirappalli District. Afterward, in the year 2000, Ariyalur and Udahyarpalaym Taluks were separated from Perambalur District, and Ariyalur District was formed.

    In Perambalur District, Perambalur, Kunnam, and Veppanthattai Taluks were formed. Then Kunnam was divided into two taluks, namely Kunnam and Alathur.

    Judiciary Formation

    From 1897–98, the 2nd-class Judicial Magistrate Court was functioning on the Taluk Office campus. Then, in 1989, the 2nd-class judicial court was upgraded to the 1st-class Judicial Magistrate Court.

    The District Munsif Court was formed on March 28, 1981, and it was functioning in a rental building.

    On July 15, 2007, a foundation stone was laid for the combined court building in Perambalur. The opening ceremony was celebrated on February 7, 2009. Now in the Combined Court Building, Perambalur District and Sessions Court, Mahila Court, Family Court, Special Court for the trial of cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Sub Court, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Principal District Munsif Court, Additional District Munsif Court, and four Judicial Magistrate Courts are functioning.

    Further, the two Taluk-level courts are functioning in a rental building, i.e., the District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court at Veppanthattai from August 12, 2019, and the District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court at Kunnam from April 27, 2021.

    Specialties and Tourist Spots

    In Perambalur District, there are 2500-year-old Valeeswaran Temples in Valikandapuram, Egambareswarar Temple in Chettikulam, and Kutram Poruthavar Temple in S. Aduthurai, which are very famous temples in Perambalur District. The famous temple with beautiful wall paintings in Venganur Viruthagreeswarar temple is also present. The Chettikulam Balathandayuthapani Temple and Madurakaliamman Temple in Siruvachur are in Peramblaur District. And Madhanagoplalaswamy temple, which was worshiped by ‘Pandavas’, is also located in Perambalur.

    The Govt. Jawaharlal Nehru sugar factory is at Eraiyur in Perambalur District. Agriculture is the prime occupation. Sugarcane, paddy, cotton, maize, and small onions are cultivated here. Wood carvings done in Thazhuthazhai and Veppanthattai are world-famous.

    There are 7.5 billion-year-old, 12-foot-long stone trees in Sathanur Village. This rare fossil looks like metal without being rocky. This is a “GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION” of Perambalur District.

    Mayilootru falls in the Patchamalai range in Ladapuram, and Viswakudi Dam is in Perambalur District. There are Buddha statues in the villages of Paravai, Okalur, and Perumathur.
